John 14:22-31 | What's happening (and who's involved)?

This section continues off of the interaction that Jesus is having with His disciples. Judas, who is specified as not being Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed Jesus, presses Jesus on more questions. The last thing Jesus had said is that He would manifest Himself to His disciples. So Judas presses into this. He asks how Jesus would manifest Himself to them but not to the world? Judas caught on to a distinction there that Jesus is making. The relationship the world has with Him is radically different than what His disciples have with Him.

Jesus once again highlights how this relationship dynamic works out. By love and obedience, we see the love of the Father poured out and He and the Son will dwell with the believer. The distinction continues. The one who does not love and does not obey does not heed the Father. The relationship is different.

Then Jesus reveals the manner in which He will be with them. He will be manifest to them through the Holy Spirit and through His peace. These He goes to send to the disciples. He once again emphasizes that He goes the Father. This would certainly indicate to some degree or another that the unity of the Godhead is the wellspring from which these things flow forth from. Jesus further explains the relationship between Him and the Father and then calls for the disciples and Himself to depart.

There is a lot of fun stuff to break down through this! I am excited to continue examining the relationship between love and obedience. Jesus promises a lot of amazing things through that, one of which is something that our culture severely lacks - peace.

What observations are you making?
