John 4:43-54 | What is a lesson for the original audience?

Given the surrounding context as well as the connection between the miracles at Cana, the primary lesson here seems to be a challenge of faith. Many of those in the day of this writing, like in the modern day today, struggled with the concept of believing without seeing. Even still, many who saw still did not believe. So it is not the seeing that causes one to believe. There is still something deeper in the individual. There must be a willingness to believe. That seems to be what this passage is calling out to.

The matter of faith is greatly dealt with throughout all of Scripture. Faith is the single point on which we access grace. Are we not saved by grace through faith? In the same way we received salvation are we not to stand in it? Do we not have an record of those who have gone before us in incredible faith to look up to? The matter of faith was a tremendous point of teaching then just as it is now. So in terms a lesson for the original audience, this seems to be a critical point that John is stressing.

What lesson are you seeing?
