John 18:1-11 | What's a lesson for the original audience?

Admittedly, I do not have a whole lot to say concerning the lesson for the original audience. This passage is primarily informative, but it is informative in a particular direction.

As I noted in yesterday's devotion, this marks the beginning of the hour Jesus has been speaking of since His ministry began. Time and time again, the Pharisees and religious leaders had tried to capture, seize, or kill Jesus. It was never to any avail, and Jesus explained it was because His hour had not yet come. In this case, we can see how Jesus placed Himself in the place Judas knew they would be. We see how Jesus did not attempt to avoid capture. On the contrary, Jesus effectively turned Himself in and rebuked the attempt from Peter to keep Jesus from capture. This was it. This was Jesus' hour where He laid His own life down.

What lesson are you seeing?
