John 1:14-18 | What's the connection?

It is no small matter that God took upon flesh and dwelt among us. Scripture is not very concerned with telling us how all of this took place. It was hotly debated in the early church and remains a hot topic of debate now. How can an individual be both fully God and fully man? It is one that hurts my head as I think on it too long. But there are many things in Scripture that leaves me baffled concerning the depth of the Lord. What I always say is that I am a finite mind trying to understand an infinite God. Understanding any degree of infinity is truly impossible for our minds to comprehend. Nevertheless, Scripture makes it clear that this is what happened. God took upon flesh and dwelt among us. Paul addresses this in Philippians to highlight the humility of Jesus. He writes,

5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
-Philippians 2:5-7

So in the humility of Jesus, He did not hold upon His glory and maintain His status as One so divine. He took upon our frame to live out life as a man in right relationship with God, filled with the Holy Spirit to carry out the work of the ministry. He lived out the greatest example for us to follow. Being in Christ, we now stand in the same place, as a man in right relationship with God, filled with the Holy Spirit to carry out the work of the ministry. Now it is an important thing to recognize that in Jesus making Himself of no reputation does not mean at any point that He stopped being God. But it does mean that He took upon limitation. He was no longer on full display in the glorious appearing of God. He was in our frame. As such, He ate and slept. He felt hurt and pain. He was tempted in all ways, such as we are, yet without sin. The body of Jesus was physically slain, though He rose again (Praise the Lord). He went forward and accomplished something in the flesh that we could not.

3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh
-Romans 8:3

Living the life He lived; dying the death He died; raising into the life anew, we now can become partakers of this glorious inheritance filled with grace and truth.

What connections are you making?
