John 1:14-18 | What's happening (and who's involved)?

As we have covered the Word in the previous section, we see some incredible characteristics of Him, that being Jesus Christ. Not only does He carry the same attributes of God and has an incredible relationship with God, but the Word is God! That is a pretty incredible thing in it of itself. What this section here highlights is that this Word did not simply stay put. Rather, the Word, being God, took upon flesh and physically dwelt (or tabernacled) among us. This is, in no uncertain terms, incredible. His glory was witnessed by His disciples, displayed by the Father. And we are given an amazing description of the Word that dwelt among us. He is full of grace and truth.

Now, as the forerunner, John the Baptist gives proclamation that prepares and announces the way of this coming Messiah. There is a testimony given here from John that even though he is physically older than Jesus, and his ministry precedes Jesus', that Jesus still was before him. This is ultimately a testament of his deity.

Beholding the deity of this Messiah, the fullness that lie therein is something that we can all partake of. There is a healthy understanding that we ought to have of the Lord. We cannot exhaust His resources. So then, He being full of grace and truth can freely give that to us all. And so we can all live in the place of the psalmist that proclaims,

    8      Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good;
    Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
-Psalm 34:8

We have been recipients of His grace. In the same manner that the law was imparted to Israel through Moses, a new law was given through Christ. From His fullness, grace and truth were manifest and given to those who belong to Him. And it was given to us through Him who has displayed the Father.

What observations do you see in this passage?
