Psalm 95:1-7a
1Oh come, let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
2Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving;
Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
3For the Lord is the great God,
And the great King above all gods.
4In His hand are the deep places of the earth;
The heights of the hills are His also.
5The sea is His, for He made it;
And His hands formed the dry land.
6Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
7For He is our God,
And we are the people of His pasture,
And the sheep of His hand.
-Psalm 95:1-7a
Praise be to God! One of the things I would like for you to notice in the language of praising God is that it is not just me. It is not just you. The word says, "Let us sing to the Lord!" There is a togetherness in which we ought to be praising the Lord. In our society today, nearly everything has become self-focused. We live in the most individualized society in all of human history. Everything is catered to the individual. We all get to live in our little Goldilocks society where everything is just right. Not only has this led to a major detriment in having community, but it has also greatly affected the way we see God.
It used to be that the other nations would see God based upon His actions toward Israel. Now we need everything to happen to me. Unless I see it with my own eyes, it does not happen. It is almost as if the power of testimony means nothing. In like manner, we struggle to bring praise to God communally unless God has done something directly with me that morning. Indeed, the Lord is working in all of us. However, that does not mean we experience the same way. There is a matter of faith where we must remember the character of God through all circumstances. We should be eager and ready to give praise to God together. Rejoice with those who are rejoicing. Give praise with those who are praising. Recognize the goodness of God through all.
