Psalm 93
1The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty;
The Lord is clothed,
He has girded Himself with strength.
Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved.
2Your throne is established from of old;
You are from everlasting.
3The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
The floods have lifted up their voice;
The floods lift up their waves.
4The Lord on high is mightier
Than the noise of many waters,
Than the mighty waves of the sea.
5Your testimonies are very sure;
Holiness adorns Your house,
O Lord, forever.
-Psalm 93
As I read this, I wonder if we really understand those first three words. Do we actually believe that the Lord reigns? As we approach another season of elections, you will hear all the hopes that various people have in their select candidate. "If this person gets into office then this can happen!" "If that one gets in everything will be over!" We are very accustomed to having hope or a lack of hope based on who is in power. Life looks different when someone wise takes power over one who is foolish. Israel is a testament to the difference good and bad leaders can make. How is it different when it is the Lord on the throne then?
People operate differently when they have security in their leadership. If God is our head and we are trusting His lead, we can live with confidence that our hope is not in this life. The cliché that God is in control becomes less cliché and more reality. It builds confidence instead of copout. It should change the way we live and it should change the way we pray. You don't ask another customer to help you if your order got messed up at a restaurant. You ask the waiter or the manager. You ask someone who has the power to do what you need. When we know the Lord is in power, it changes the way we live. I challenge you to prayerfully consider this: do you really believe that the Lord reigns? How should that change your life?
