Psalm 72:1-4

1Give the king Your judgments, O God,
And Your righteousness to the king’s Son.
2He will judge Your people with righteousness,
And Your poor with justice.
3The mountains will bring peace to the people,
And the little hills, by righteousness.
4He will bring justice to the poor of the people;
He will save the children of the needy,
And will break in pieces the oppressor.
-Psalm 72:1-4

The Lord is just is executes justice perfectly. If this is truly the case, we have within ourselves a real problem. In fact, a very large issue arises if we do not understand who the Lord is. For if God is good and just, how is it that He can so freely defend me? If He is so good and so just, how did any sinner find salvation? Surely it is justice for the sinner to meet their wages. Most people question the idea that if God is good why does bad things happen. I pose the opposite question. If God is good, why have sinners become saints?

This is something that I used to struggle with. Misunderstanding the justice of God I found myself doubting the sufficiency of the death of Christ. I felt as though I had to suffer further. Justice was complete upon the suffering of the Messiah. Now, as 1 John says, if we confess He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Justice has been worked out in Jesus. How good is our God and how undeserving are we for such an amazing grace? Understand that God did not make a mistake or an error in judgement when setting you free. Rejoice in the Lord and give praise for your salvation!
