Psalm 68:33-35
33 To Him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which were of old!
Indeed, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice.
34 Ascribe strength to God;
His excellence is over Israel,
And His strength is in the clouds.
35 O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places.
The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people.
Blessed be God!
-Psalm 68:33-35
We see an error taking place throughout the text of Scripture of doubting the strength of God. Rather than ascribing strength to the Lord they find themselves ascribing strength to their enemies. It is interesting as we read through these stories today and can see so clearly how the people of Israel simply needed to trust in the Lord's strength. Yet, how frequently we can fall for the same trap.
When Israel first approached the Promised Land they sent 12 spies. 10 of these spies came back and said their strength was too great and they would never conquer them. The remaining 2 spies recognized how the Lord has brought them from the land of Egypt and led them this far. They knew the strength of the Lord would be their deliverer. As the story plays out, we see they wander the desert for 40 years until the generation of the 12 spies all died off with the exception of the 2, Joshua and Caleb. They were the only 2 from the previous generation permitted to enter the Promised Land for they had faith that the Lord delivered and would deliver them.
I find it incredibly ironic how we have fallen for a similar trap in our modern day. The vast majority of believers will tell you how there is no way we can ever conquer sin in our lives. The enemy is simply too strong. Despite what the Lord may have said and how He has already delivered us from the land of Egypt, it simply is not possible that we would be able to conquer this enemy. Very few come to see that the Lord has not only delivered us from the penalty of sin but also the dominion of sin. He has made way for us to walk as conquerors in Him. Do not be so hasty to ascribe so much strength the enemy that God has already proclaimed victory over! Ascribe strength to God! Stand strong and steadfast within Him! Blessed be His name.
