Psalm 52:1-5
1Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man?
The goodness of God endures continually.
2Your tongue devises destruction,
Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
3You love evil more than good,
Lying rather than speaking righteousness.
Selah
4You love all devouring words,
You deceitful tongue.
5God shall likewise destroy you forever;
He shall take you away, and pluck you out of your dwelling place,
And uproot you from the land of the living.
-Psalm 52:1-5
The end of the wicked and wickedness is something that I think about regularly. It is something that as believers we should think of regularly. Not only does it serve as a motivator to preach the gospel to those who are perishing but it also motivates us to walk closely with righteousness. There is a strong dichotomy between evil and goodness in Scripture, yet the lines blurred in this world. It is the very nature of wickedness to confused what is good and what is evil. I find that it is interesting that this Psalm focuses so much upon the words being spoken.
We know that it is form the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks. We also know from James that whoever bridles his tongue is a perfect man. All of this is due to the fact that words are revelatory of the condition of a man. The wicked will devise destruction, lie, deceive, and devour with their words. Such wickedness the Lord will destroy.
As it was previously stated, the world wants to blur the lines of what is wicked. When it comes to words that line has been blurred to the point where many believers have fallen victim to the trap that these things really are not that bad. Do not be deceived! Scripture has a lot to say against those who speak wickedly and none of it is of consequence you want. It has much to say of those who speak righteously and all of which the reward you would desire. Be wary of your tongue and see the evidence of your words as the condition within yourself. Bring yourself before the Lord continually in prayer and be fervent in His word.
