John 14:1-7 | What's the lesson for me today?

The major lesson that sticks out to me is one that rewrites much of how Christianity was originally introduced to me. I was always told that heaven was the goal. So in order for me to experience "eternal life," I needed to wait until death. But there seemed to be this experience of eternal life that the biblical authors had that did not include the need to die. That caused me to question what eternal life was really the scope of. And in that exploration, I had also realized that the goal of the Christian was never heaven. The goal was the Father.

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
-John 14:6

3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
-John 17:3

The goal for the believer is to be reconciled to the Father. The goal is always the Father. Now I understand how one can experience eternal life now, because the Father has made Himself known through the Son. By looking upon Jesus, He reveals the way to the Father, the truth of the Father, and the life in the Father.

What lesson are you taking away?
