John 10:11-21 | What's the lesson for me today?

There are a lot of voices out there in our world. There are so many things to follow. We have a multitude of ideologies pushed to us constantly through our phones, media, and entertainment. Everything is calling for us to follow it and we must discern the truth. They are all counterfeits.

Part of being a sheep of the Good Shepherd is to know His voice. With all these other voices, it is hard to distinguish the voice of the Lord. There is a responsibility we must employ to separate ourselves from the other voices and get with the Lord to hear his own.

My wife, Priscilla, has a reputation for being quiet. Her voice is soft and tender, and can easily be hard to discern amidst noise. It is a running joke among our friends. Priscilla will say something and no one can discern it except for me. They will laugh and jest about how they couldn't make it out at all. But Priscilla and I will sit and smile. I've taken the time to discern her voice. I can hear through the softness. I am attuned to listening for her. However, there are other times where the noise of what is going on overrules. I need to shut down the noise or step closer to her so that I may hear. This has served as an incredible lesson for me to know what I need to do with the Lord.

It is critical that I am with the Lord enough to be able to discern His voice. I should be able to hear Him even amidst chaos. But should the chaos ensue and I cannot discern the voice of the Lord, I must step away from that chaos. So rather than proposing the usual question of what lesson you are taking from this, I will suggest another:

Do you know the voice of the Shepherd?
