John 6:60-71 | What's the lesson for me today?

Can you imagine standing in the midst of the twelve, hearing the words of Jesus and watching everyone turn away? As someone who loves truth and longs to grow deeper into it, it astounds me the causes that drive people to separate themselves from that. I have watched people leave churches over preference and call it noble. I have seen divisions between brothers in the faith because of simple misunderstandings. I have watched people turn away from the faith because the Word of God was taught. It encourages me when I read passages like this to see that the same happened to Jesus.

Here is the catch. Jesus was not impressed by numbers. He wasn't astounded that the multitudes followed Him. He wasn't even surprised that they left. One thing stood out to Jesus. Faith. Or rather, the lack thereof.

As we highlighted yesterday, the entire narrative is focused upon the contrast of those who did believe and those who did not. What lesson can I take from this but to seek to increase my belief?

I have shared many times the importance of examining whether or not you truly do or do not believe. And I weigh that even within myself now. Does my life reflect that I do or do not believe? An easy indicator to look at is this.

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
-Colossians 3:1-4

Is my mind set on heavenly things or earthly things?

What lesson are you taking away?
