John 1:14-18 | What's the lesson for me today?

As I read through this, the question hits me. Why would God ever do something like that? What have I or any of humanity ever done to warrant treatment like this from the Lord? Many can turn to pride and think it is because they have done something special. I tend to think of how the Lord addressed Israel  in Deuteronomy 7,

7 The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; 8 but because the LORD loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
-Deut. 7:7-8

Why did the Lord choose Israel in this way? Because He loved them and was faithful. It is impossible to separate the coming of the Lord Jesus from His love.

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
-John 3:16

8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
-Romans 5:8

9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
-1 John 4:9-10

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
-Ephesians 2:4-5

Why did God dwell among His people and make His glory known in Christ? Because He loves us and desires us. He wants you to be reconciled to Him. He desires righteousness in you, not because He is oppressive and wants to keep you from harm. But because He understands that you were created to be in right relationship with Him and that is the fullest joy you will ever have. So let us then be reconciled to God and give thanks to the Lord how He has made Himself known to us.

What lesson are you taking away from this?
