Proverbs 26:2

2Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow,
So a curse without cause shall not alight.
-Proverbs 26:2

Many a person would wish ill upon their enemies. They would seek out their demise and some believers even would actively pray and make proclamations against enemies, seeking to curse them. But what power has man to curse? It is like a sparrow or a swallow. It is erratic and unattainable. The only One who truly has power to curse is that of the Lord. This is because the Lord knows who rightly would deserve it. Consider the list of woes that are given to the Pharisees in Matthew 23. These are curses pronounced upon them. It is by the authority of the Lord that this is brought forth. So before we become hasty in our condemnation of others, let us bring it before the Lord. We may very well find that the Lord will bring correction in our own lives and give us a new perspective against others. This is the responsibility that we have when it comes to our enemies. Be slow to speak, slow to be angry, but let us be quick to listen, and especially to the voice of the Lord in that.
