Proverbs 25:11-12

11A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold
In settings of silver.
12Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold
Is a wise rebuker to an obedient ear.
-Proverbs 25:11-12

A large part of wisdom and discernment is knowing what to say and when to say it. A rebuke given at the right time can restore one to righteousness. An encouragement given at the right moment can stir one to press forward in a season threatening despair. This takes sincere spiritual discernment. Sometimes we may have exactly the right thing to say, but the timing is off. We must be sensitive to that. Other times, it may seem that the timing is lined up but we really have not worked through what to say. We must consider these matters carefully. If done out of the right time or said in the wrong way, we may accomplish the opposite of what we are striving to accomplish. Be wise in your conduct and in your words. Let the Lord guide you in all things.
