Proverbs 22:15
15Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;
The rod of correction will drive it far from him.
-Proverbs 22:15
It does not take long being around children to see the reality that foolishness reigns in them. It is a mark of maturity when someone grows in wisdom. We discover our sin natures very early on. You do not have to teach a child to hit, you have to teach them not to hit. Back talking is natural for them. You have to instruct on how to hold their tongue in their frustration. The rod of correction is a necessary tool.
On the other side of this, what does this testify of the adult who is still acting foolishly? They are childish. Foolishness is akin to childishness and the solution is the same for them both. Our foolhardiness must be corrected. Praise the Lord that He is a good Father and chastens us that we might walk in righteousness. Seek the Lord and do not despise His chastening. Turn and walk in obedience.
