Proverbs 21:23
23Whoever guards his mouth and tongue
Keeps his soul from troubles.
-Proverbs 21:23
It is no question in the Scripture the ability that the tongue has to steer you wrong. We often find ourselves apologizing for something that we said out of turn, or inappropriate talk, or out of our hunger or anger. It is not uncommon for us, even as believers, to allow our speech to be dictated by our emotions. It is imperative that we guard our mouth and tongue. Doing so can keep you from trouble in many ways. The old adage of, "think before you speak" is absolutely a biblical concept when applied correctly. What we need to consider is not whether or not we want to say something, but whether or not it is right to do so. Consider it carefully and through much prayer. Let the Lord guard your mouth. Do not let crass speech flow from you. Be wise in your conduct, even in what you say.
