Proverbs 20:13
13Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty;
Open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with bread.
-Proverbs 20:13
There needs to be a distinction made here. Sleep is not bad. Rest is not bad. In fact, rest is commanded by the Lord. The issue arises when sleep takes too high of a place in our lives and becomes laziness. It has been said many times over that the Christian life is one of moderation. This is true. When done in excess, almost anything that may be good in it of itself can become a problem. It is possible to drink too much water. It is possible to get too much exercise. It is possible to read too much. It is possible to work too much. It is possible to rest too much. Let us not amount to laziness lest we bear the consequences of such a lifestyle. We should strive to be productive and utilize the time the Lord has given us wisely.
