Proverbs 19:25

25Strike a scoffer, and the simple will become wary;
Rebuke one who has understanding, and he will discern knowledge.
-Proverbs 19:25

True and genuine wisdom will learn from many faucets. The first example we have given to us in this proverb is in learning from others' discipline. Consider it in this regard. In high school, I was tempted for a certain test to find a way to cheat on it. I was not confident in the material and figured I might be able to get away with it. That was until another person in the class before me got caught cheating and was given an automatic failure. I learned my lesson from his example and decided against it. The discipline of the fool can prevent foolishness yourself.

Similarly, the wise individual will grow in wisdom at rebuke given to them as well. In short, the wise learn from others' mistakes as much as they do their own. The one who has understanding continues to grow in understanding and discernment in all circumstances. Learn from those around you. Heed the rebuke the may be given to you. Learn the way of wisdom and walk in it.
