Proverbs 17:23

23A wicked man accepts a bribe behind the back
To pervert the ways of justice.
-Proverbs 17:23

Since we live in a world such as the one we do, we do not see so much the kind of bribery that is being talked about here. However, the root cause of what makes a man like this wicked is very prevalent in our modern world. The issue is a lack of integrity. The opposite of this individual is one who lets their yes be yes and their no be no. The one who is willing to accept the bribe is a wicked individual indeed for there exists no integrity to uphold justice, therefore there is no backbone for truth. As believers, we most certainly need to sustain our walk with a great deal of integrity. How easy is it to persuade you to compromise a little bit? Or how simple does the alternative need to be for you to trade bible study time with leisure? Compromise is not the way of the believer. If there is going to be a bend of compromise at all, let it be in the direction of walking obediently to the Lord. Do not pervert the way of justice or be swift to change for earthly gain. Be swift to be obedient to Christ.
