Proverbs 17:21
21He who begets a scoffer does so to his sorrow,
And the father of a fool has no joy.

Having worked alongside many parents in raising their children, both as a children's pastor and as a youth pastor, I have heard many grievances from mothers and fathers concerning the direction that it appears their child is going in life. The parents weep or express through their frustration that they have done what they can but still their child is taking this other path, one of scoffing and of foolishness. In such moments, this proverb stands out. It is a sorrowful thing to watch your child delight in wickedness, and no joy comes from such a situation. Parents, continue in love and prayer for your children, and grandparents for your grandchildren. Children, take heed to yourselves that you walk in righteousness, and in so doing honor your mother and father.
