Proverbs 15:14
14The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge,
But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.
-Proverbs 15:14
This theme is continuous throughout Scripture. Wickedness feeds into wickedness. Righteousness feeds into righteousness. The knowledgeable seek knowledge. The foolish pursue foolishness. The wise heeds correction. The scoffer despises rebuke. So what needs to change in order for you to be of a different type? There are 2 ways of looking at this. If you have a bad habit, you need to physically change what you are doing and do something else in the stead of that bad habit. Consistency in that may lead you to indulge in something productive.
The second way of looking at this is by way of identity. Due to the transformation that Christ has granted us, we are no longer wicked individuals. As such, we no longer seek wickedness. He has made us righteous. Knowing this should lead us to pursue more righteousness.
Think of it like this. When you get a new car, you treat it like a new car. You maintain it differently. You keep it washed and vacuumed. The oil is changed more frequently. You're keeping check on all the conditions of it. But what happens when that new car becomes the old car? It is maintained less and cared for less. If we are described as righteous, why would we not seek to maintain righteousness? If we are those who bear understanding, why would we taint it with foolishness? Your identity in Christ is a new creation. Let us walk as those in the new.
