Proverbs 11:23

23The desire of the righteous is only good,
But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
-Proverbs 11:23

Once again, we see this revelation of the affect of the inward man. The desire of the righteous is goodness. Prior to being born again, Romans 6 teaches that we were free in regard to righteousness. We did not care if what we were doing was right, instead we did what we felt was right, and usually that being toward ourselves. Yet in being born again, we now have a care as to what is pleasing in the sight of the Lord. The same cannot be said for the wicked. The expectation for them is wrath. They will not escape it.

I think of a child who is doing what they are supposed to. There is no fear or concern that they are doing something wrong. However, when a child is doing something that they know they are not supposed to do, they are constantly looking over their shoulder in fear, for they expect wrath. Despite growing up, the same nature remains true. The righteous are concerned with what is good, but the wicked have a fearful expectation of judgment.
