Proverbs 7:21-27

21With her enticing speech she caused him to yield,
With her flattering lips she seduced him.
22Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter,
Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,
23Till an arrow struck his liver.
As a bird hastens to the snare,
He did not know it would cost his life.
24Now therefore, listen to me, my children;
Pay attention to the words of my mouth:
25Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways,
Do not stray into her paths;
26For she has cast down many wounded,
And all who were slain by her were strong men.
27Her house is the way to hell,
Descending to the chambers of death.
-Proverbs 7:21-27

Unfortunately, sin is very good at convincing us that there will be no consequences for giving in to it. Verses 22-23 should be embedded into our minds when temptation comes to our doorstep. Should you give in, you are being led as an ox to the slaughter. You walk as a fool to the correction of the stocks. You chase after it as a bird hastening to the snare. The only thought on your mind was to get what looked appetizing, but it cost you everything. HE did not know it would cost his life. This is what you gamble with when you listen to the voice of the seductress.

Do not fall for the thought that you are strong enough to endure it as well. See again verse 26. All who were slain by her were strong men. They were capable people, yet still the indulging of the flesh had them destroyed. Look then to verse 27 and see what the destination of her path is. Be extremely wary and cautious, for indulgence may very well cost you everything, both on this earth, and in eternity.
