Proverbs 7:6-10
6For at the window of my house
I looked through my lattice,
7And saw among the simple,
I perceived among the youths,
A young man devoid of understanding,
8Passing along the street near her corner;
And he took the path to her house
9In the twilight, in the evening,
In the black and dark night.
10And there a woman met him,
With the attire of a harlot, and a crafty heart.
-Proverbs 7:6-10
We have the contrast of the man who is joined together with wisdom here. There is a major lesson we can learn from the young man devoid of understanding. It starts with a passing along her street. There are times where the passing happens by circumstance and we find ourselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. We need to be diligent to keep ourselves from such places or flee when we stumble upon them. The man devoid of understanding lingers and takes the path to her house. In secret, under the cloak of night, he meets the seductress. She does not even hide what she is, in full display in the attire of a harlot. Contrary to the godly woman whose beauty is in the hidden person of the heart with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit (1 Peter 3:4), this woman has a crafty heart. She seeks to take from him as he seeks to gain something from her, but both are left destitute.
Learn from this that we must grow in understanding. Ignorance is no excuse and it leads us to our own demise. Cling to the Lord and His words of wisdom. Seek out and grow in the fear of the Lord.
