Proverbs 5:1-6
My son, pay attention to my wisdom;
Lend your ear to my understanding,
2That you may preserve discretion,
And your lips may keep knowledge.
3For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey,
And her mouth is smoother than oil;
4But in the end she is bitter as wormwood,
Sharp as a two-edged sword.
5Her feet go down to death,
Her steps lay hold of hell.
6Lest you ponder her path of life—
Her ways are unstable;
You do not know them.
-Proverbs 5:1-6
Proverbs 5 hits on something very prevalent to our culture: sexual immorality. As we dive in these next couple of days to Proverbs 5, I want you to be aware of what a sever issue sexual immorality is. In addition to that, it is important to remember that many of the times that the immoral woman is being talked about, it is, in addition to sexual immorality, dealing with issues of idolatry.
As for sexual immorality, beware the land she treads. Her lips drip with honey and her mouth is like oil. She is alluring. Just as with the bait of a trap, it holds something vicious on the other side of what it offers. Her feet go to death and steps lay hold of hell. A destitute eternity awaits any who tread in her wake. To any who thinks they know what they are doing when playing with such fire, they do not. For every other sin a man can do, Scripture tells us to wage a war against it. For sexual immorality, Scripture says to flee. Run from this one. Stay as far from it as you can. Should it ensnare you, it will drain the life from you. Keep yourself from it. Cling to righteousness.
