Proverbs 3:5-6
5Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
-Proverbs 3:5-6
Commit this to memory. There are so many dimensions to these two verses that we need to grab ahold of. The start of all this is a radical trust in the Lord. With all of your being, you need to trust in the Lord. There are times where it may seem that what the Lord is saying to you does not make sense. There are times where forgiveness and mercy are so far from seeming reasonable. Yet that Lord calls us to it still. We must trust Him. As we are trusting on Him, we are also not leaning upon our own understanding. We see things in a limited, finite, perspective. The Lord has a complete picture.
As we are committing ourselves to trust, we are also setting ourselves to acknowledge Him in all our ways. This is a moment I would like for you to meditate upon its meaning. How can you acknowledge the Lord in all your ways? The average American Christian would say something along the lines of Jesus being first in your life. He is number one, then family, then friends, or country, or whatever it may be. The issue we have here is that we segment our faith from the rest of our lives. This cannot be so.
Acknowledging the Lord in all our ways does not mean putting Him at the top of our list. He should be the very ink and paper that make up the list. The essence of everything we say and do should be founded in Him, and Him in it. When you have entered into this, then you shall see in clarity how the Lord directs your paths.
