Psalm 119 - Mem
97Oh, how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
98You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies;
For they are ever with me.
99I have more understanding than all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation.
100I understand more than the ancients,
Because I keep Your precepts.
101I have restrained my feet from every evil way,
That I may keep Your word.
102I have not departed from Your judgments,
For You Yourself have taught me.
103How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104Through Your precepts I get understanding;
Therefore I hate every false way.
-Psalm 119:97-104
Some may read this and see a measure of pride within the Psalmist. Rather than it being an exaltation of self, however, it is an exaltation of the excellency of the Word of God. Scripture is effective in making one wise and gain understanding. We become restrained from evil when walking in the liberty of His judgments. His words become sweet to our mouths, though the world be so bitter. In reflection of the truth, the false way is hated within us. Yet such a reality does not just happen when we read a verse, a chapter, or a devotional a day. It does not even happen if your read 10 chapters a day, if you just set down your bible after and forget what it reads. This reality exists when the Word of God is your meditation all the day. A single verse can become a gold mine if you meditate on it continually, and 10 chapters can become a vast treasury if it is what your heart is wholly set upon. Meditate upon the Word with a whole heart. Be diligent in your pursuit of the Lord.
