Psalm 119 - Gimel
17Deal bountifully with Your servant,
That I may live and keep Your word.
18Open my eyes, that I may see
Wondrous things from Your law.
19I am a stranger in the earth;
Do not hide Your commandments from me.
20My soul breaks with longing
For Your judgments at all times.
21You rebuke the proud—the cursed,
Who stray from Your commandments.
22Remove from me reproach and contempt,
For I have kept Your testimonies.
23Princes also sit and speak against me,
But Your servant meditates on Your statutes.
24Your testimonies also are my delight
And my counselors.
-Psalm 119:17-24
There are two things I would like to highlight from today's passage. The first is the seeking the psalmist does to be taught by God. We cannot approach the word of God thinking that just because we read it, we got all of it from it that we can. Instead, our time in the word should be as a conversation with the Lord. Pray that He would open your eyes to see wondrous things from His law. Press into that.
The second thing I want to highlight is the fact that the Psalmist recognizes the fact that he is a stranger here on the earth. This is not his home. I genuinely believe that we all need to carry this mentality in our lives. We do not belong here. Our home is set above, in heaven. When we have that as our focus, the testimonies of the Lord become our delight. We rejoice in what HE has shared with us because everything in our lives is done for the sake of being with Him.
Rejoice in the Lord and rejoice in His word. Consider how you approach the Scriptures and how you approach our lives here on the earth. Seek to dwell with Him in all you do.
