Psalm 116:15-19
15Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His saints.
16O Lord, truly I am Your servant;
I am Your servant, the son of Your maidservant;
You have loosed my bonds.
17I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And will call upon the name of the Lord.
18I will pay my vows to the Lord
Now in the presence of all His people,
19In the courts of the Lord’s house,
In the midst of you, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!
-Psalm 116:15-19
Our perspective of death as believers can be a difficult thing to walk out. We understand that we can mourn, but we do not mourn as those who have no hope. There is a sense in which we grieve, but we grieve not for them, but for ourselves. Something that has always interested me is the perspective that God has concerning death. The end of this psalm highlights the perspective of the Lord towards the death of His saints. It says that it is precious. Why would the death of His saints be precious to Him? For those that are precious to me, I do not really see their death as being a precious thing as well. Then I remember what that death means for the saint and for the Lord. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. The Lord gains His reward! And the saint gains their reward as well. Surely even in death, we can maintain praise to the Lord. He is our pursuit in life, and therefore our reward in death. Praise be to the Lord!
