Psalm 113
1Praise the Lord!
Praise, O servants of the Lord,
Praise the name of the Lord!
2Blessed be the name of the Lord
From this time forth and forevermore!
3From the rising of the sun to its going down
The Lord’s name is to be praised.
4The Lord is high above all nations,
His glory above the heavens.
5Who is like the Lord our God,
Who dwells on high,
6Who humbles Himself to behold
The things that are in the heavens and in the earth?
7He raises the poor out of the dust,
And lifts the needy out of the ash heap,
8That He may seat him with princes—
With the princes of His people.
9He grants the barren woman a home,
Like a joyful mother of children.
Praise the Lord!
-Psalm 113
I don't think it is any accident that our world has pushed us to worry all the time. When we wake up in the morning, the concern is with what we have to do that day and how we will get everything done. After we've completed it all and start settling down for bed, we are thinking of the next day and all that we have to do. All throughout the day is filled with stress, worry, distractions, and the like. Having our minds so occupied keeps us from being able to live a life of praise unto the Lord. We are hindered by the things of this world merely by being distracted by it. The praises that we see through the Psalms from the rising to the setting sun are not done on accident. It happens when our focus is taken off the things of this world and put on the Lord. Be intentional with giving praise. Let it become a natural practice for you to turn your eyes to Jesus and let the things of this world grow strangely dim.
