Psalm 112
1Praise the Lord!
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
Who delights greatly in His commandments.
2His descendants will be mighty on earth;
The generation of the upright will be blessed.
3Wealth and riches will be in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.
4Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness;
He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
5A good man deals graciously and lends;
He will guide his affairs with discretion.
6Surely he will never be shaken;
The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance.
7He will not be afraid of evil tidings;
His heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
8His heart is established;
He will not be afraid,
Until he sees his desire upon his enemies.
9He has dispersed abroad,
He has given to the poor;
His righteousness endures forever;
His horn will be exalted with honor.
10The wicked will see it and be grieved;
He will gnash his teeth and melt away;
The desire of the wicked shall perish.
-Psalm 112
The rest of this Psalm after verse 1 shows how the man who fears the Lord will be blessed. Naturally, I believe there is more of a spiritual significance to these blessings and less of a physical, though the physical may play a part as well. For example, the wealth and riches in our house. Walking in wisdom and stewarding what we have well may result in financial benefit, but I think that the riches that are truly needed and what makes one truly wealthy is spiritual. If we have nothing in material but everything in Christ, then in having Christ we have all we need and more. Some of the blessing that is promised has to do with walking in wisdom as well. In fearing the Lord and walking in obedience to Him we walk in love and we trust in the Lord. The evidence is clear on how we need to live our lives. Live well unto the Lord with a zealous heart sold out for Him.
