Psalm 103:15-18
15As for man, his days are like grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16For the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
And its place remembers it no more.
17But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting
On those who fear Him,
And His righteousness to children’s children,
18To such as keep His covenant,
And to those who remember His commandments to do them.
-Psalm 103:15-18
The contrast presented here is stark. Growing up in California, my Dad prided himself on having a vibrant green lawn. We spent hours weekly taking care of it and ensuring it would live. However, it would inevitably go through cycles very quickly where it would die out and regrow. Even looking around Flagstaff after monsoons, you see beautiful green grass and wildflowers. You have but a few days to enjoy the sight before they die off. To the perspective of the Lord, we truly are here today and gone tomorrow.
The Lord is not so. His mercy is not so. The mercy of the Lord extends eternally. That does not just mean a really long time. Eternity is without time. His mercy is beyond such bounds. There is something so humbling about how insignificant we are in the scope of eternity, yet how valuable the Lord has made us. Despite being like grass, He extends an everlasting mercy to us. Praise the Lord! Rejoice in His mercy. Meditate upon this today and enjoy Him.
