Psalm 102:18-28
18This will be written for the generation to come,
That a people yet to be created may praise the Lord.
19For He looked down from the height of His sanctuary;
From heaven the Lord viewed the earth,
20To hear the groaning of the prisoner,
To release those appointed to death,
21To declare the name of the Lord in Zion,
And His praise in Jerusalem,
22When the peoples are gathered together,
And the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.
23He weakened my strength in the way;
He shortened my days.
24I said, “O my God,
Do not take me away in the midst of my days;
Your years are throughout all generations.
25Of old You laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the work of Your hands.
26They will perish, but You will endure;
Yes, they will all grow old like a garment;
Like a cloak You will change them,
And they will be changed.
27But You are the same,
And Your years will have no end.
28The children of Your servants will continue,
And their descendants will be established before You.”
-Psalm 102:18-28
We have a very real contrast presented here. One generation rises up as another passes away. Such is the nature of life. There is an evident focus throughout Scripture upon the importance of raising up the next generations and passing on that which we attain in the Lord even now. In our modern culture, there is such a focus upon the self and personal growth that the upcoming generations are seen as burdens. The idea of teaching them becomes burdensome to many.
Let us be those that long to make the generations after us better than us. Invest in them. Set them up for success. What you have learned in the Lord, share with them. Give testimonies. Pray with them. Praise with them. Do not be afraid of conversations. I am afraid that the excuse, "I am not good with kids." Is not valid in the eyes of God. While we do not wish to hinder them by poor teaching, we also do not want to hinder them by neglect.
Praise God that He endures to all generations! May the Lord use you in His infinite wisdom to bless those around you.
