Psalm 97:2-6

2Clouds and darkness surround Him;
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.
3A fire goes before Him,
And burns up His enemies round about.
4His lightnings light the world;
The earth sees and trembles.
5The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord,
At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.
6The heavens declare His righteousness,
And all the peoples see His glory.
-Psalm 97:2-6

I am frequently astounded by the creativity in the praise given throughout the psalms. Praises such as this require something that I have not spent much time in discussing. As much as I would love to say that we just need to be more creative in praise toward the Lord, we cannot just make stuff up. In order for us to offer such praise, we must be close to the Lord.

It had been a practice of mine for many years that I wanted to give people a compliment they have never heard before. Most compliments come way by appearance, so I wanted to take note of something within their character. The only thing is, I have to know that person in order to be able to say something in accuracy. Should I not, they will be able to call my bluff. My praise would have to be genuine to them.

If we do not know the Lord, it is very difficult to be creative in praise. All we have is that of surface level recognition. It is not entirely bad, as we all have to start somewhere. However, our pursuit in praising the Lord must be rooted in us knowing Him deeper. Spend time with the Lord. When studying the bible, ask frequently what it is showing you about the Lord. As you grow in knowledge and understanding concerning the Lord, your praises will follow suit.
