Psalm 92:10-15

10But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox;
I have been anointed with fresh oil.
11My eye also has seen my desire on my enemies;
My ears hear my desire on the wicked
Who rise up against me.
12The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13Those who are planted in the house of the Lord
Shall flourish in the courts of our God.
14They shall still bear fruit in old age;
They shall be fresh and flourishing,
15To declare that the Lord is upright;
He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
-Psalm 92:10-15

This section of scripture is very reminiscent of Psalm 1. The tree that is planted by rivers of flowing water will flourish. The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree. How is it that we flourish? This seems to be a somewhat subjective statement for most. One can be flourishing in their job if their performance is going well. One can be flourishing in health if nothing is going wrong and there is consistent improvement. Perhaps one's family is flourishing as there is peace in the home. Or one's family is flourish because their house is FULL. The point being, the idea of flourishing depends on what you are looking at and what the goal is with what you are looking at.

Scripture assumes a couple of things in regard to how we flourish. First, it assumes a spiritual pursuit and then it assumes a social context in light of the spiritual pursuit. It would be a difficult thing to say the wicked would flourish or prosper in the courts of our God. For we know what those courts mean for them. It is judgment. However, for the righteous in Christ it is reward! Therefore, we flourish. There is blessing that follows as we pursue the Lord and walk in righteousness. We are not left empty handed as we follow the Lord's ways. So walk in righteousness! Rejoice in the Lord your God and flourish in Him.
