Psalm 90:13-17
13Return, O Lord!
How long?
And have compassion on Your servants.
14Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy,
That we may rejoice and be glad all our days!
15Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us,
The years in which we have seen evil.
16Let Your work appear to Your servants,
And Your glory to their children.
17And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us,
And establish the work of our hands for us;
Yes, establish the work of our hands.
-Psalm 90:13-17
Praise the Lord that we can actively experience the mercy of the Lord! He has put it on full display by His Son Jesus. As we have talked about the wisdom of numbering our days and being aware of our own mortality, we may experience joy and gladness in this time by way of the mercy of God. He has shown His glory so we can rejoice.
This is an important thing to consider as many may view the showing of God's mercy or His glory to us is not sufficient to bring such joy. At the very least, few live with such a mindset. Imagine being so aware of your own mortality but approaching the day of judgment without knowing God as being merciful. All that remains is a great fear of judgment. We approach that time with further fear. However, as we experience the mercy of the Lord here and now, we approach our mortality with peace in our hearts. We can rejoice in the Lord and in the way He has revealed Himself to us.
