Psalm 90:1-6
1Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
2Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
3You turn man to destruction,
And say, “Return, O children of men.”
4For a thousand years in Your sight
Are like yesterday when it is past,
And like a watch in the night.
5You carry them away like a flood;
They are like a sleep.
In the morning they are like grass which grows up:
6In the morning it flourishes and grows up;
In the evening it is cut down and withers.
-Psalm 90:1-6
As we continue to explore God's holiness we see just how unlike all else the Lord truly is. He indeed is beyond. Psalm 90 does an incredible job at going through the eternity of God and the frailty of man in comparison. The Lord has always been. He always is and always will be. He is not simply from one generation to another. He is from everlasting to everlasting. Even in terms of how we understand eternity, He goes beyond. He is forever to forever.
In comparison to how eternal God is, our very own frailty becomes increasingly stark. To one extent or another we can find ourselves nearing a form of insignificance. I take great heart and am brought low by the fact that this eternal God has brought salvation to a frail man such as myself. Let us respond with such humility and see the incredible care the the Lord has for His creation. He is eternal and has no need for us. Yet still He has extended Himself to us and paid the price for salvation. Praise the Lord!
