Psalm 89:1-4
1I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever;
With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations.
2For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever;
Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens.”
3“I have made a covenant with My chosen,
I have sworn to My servant David:
4‘Your seed I will establish forever,
And build up your throne to all generations.’ ”
-Psalm 89:1-4
There is no doubt that a lot of praise takes place in heaven. There is very little doubt that much of what we will be doing is giving praise to the Lord. Yet, I find that for many the idea of such frequent praise is burdensome or even boring. I believe much of the reason for that is due to the fact that we do not enjoy praising here and now. I also believe we don't enjoy praising here and now because we do not praise. This is, of course, a very gross generalization. However, it is vital that the people of God learn to be quick to give praise to God.
See what this Psalm is saying. In the singing of the mercies of the Lord forever, the psalmist is saying that he will make God's faithfulness known to all generations. A church of the chosen frozen will by very little means demonstrate God's faithfulness. Great and joyous praise will amplify and proclaim the Lord's goodness. As I have heard many and even myself grumble of the darkening of the morality of our world, a part of me cannot help but attribute that to a lack of praise in the people of God.
A lack of praise to the Lord is indicative of many things. It shows a lack of awe and reverence. It also shows a lack of appreciation for the works of the Lord. I think that all in all it demonstrates a lack of understanding of who God is, who we are, and what He has accomplished. Consider the goodness of God and give praise! Let your joyfulness in the Lord be known. Rejoice continually and be quick to give thanks.
