Psalm 79:8-10

    8      Oh, do not remember former iniquities against us!
    Let Your tender mercies come speedily to meet us,
    For we have been brought very low.
    9      Help us, O God of our salvation,
    For the glory of Your name;
    And deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins,
    For Your name’s sake!
    10      Why should the nations say,
    “Where is their God?”
    Let there be known among the nations in our sight
    The avenging of the blood of Your servants which has been shed.
-Psalm 79:8-10

As we go through day to day life, it is easy to forget those things that were once incredible and special to us. One of the most difficult things I have found most believers to maintain is that of zeal. There is a zeal that remains when we continue to remember the fact that the Lord has provided atonement for our sins. We are set free from sin and the penalty thereof. Taking seriously sacraments such as that of communion can serve as a regular reminder of the fact that we have been brought out from a place of darkness and death.

As we come before the Lord today, let us rejoice whole heartedly at the fact that we have been set free from sin. The Lord has cast our sin away. As we are in Christ Jesus, we should have such a zeal to then pursue righteousness and abandon all wickedness. This zeal will continue to press forward as we press ourselves in praise and pursuit of Him.
