Psalm 78:34-39
34When He slew them, then they sought Him;
And they returned and sought earnestly for God.
35Then they remembered that God was their rock,
And the Most High God their Redeemer.
36Nevertheless they flattered Him with their mouth,
And they lied to Him with their tongue;
37For their heart was not steadfast with Him,
Nor were they faithful in His covenant.
38But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity,
And did not destroy them.
Yes, many a time He turned His anger away,
And did not stir up all His wrath;
39For He remembered that they were but flesh,
A breath that passes away and does not come again.
-Psalm 78:34-39
I will never cease to be amazed at the patience of the Lord. For how long does He set aside His wrath? How incredible is He that He would wait for me with such patience? Every single one of us has a testimony to this extent. I take great comfort in this final verse. The Lord knows of our state and takes compassion on us in it. This, of course, does not excuse or permit sin in any way. However, God knows of our limitation. He is full of grace and mercy.
This is a humbling reminder that we ought to remember frequently. God was patient with you. In a time of undeserving God extended grace. Give praise to God today for His goodness in this! Know His love and care for you. Let us be those who respond in gratefulness.
