Psalm 76:4-9
4You are more glorious and excellent
Than the mountains of prey.
5The stouthearted were plundered;
They have sunk into their sleep;
And none of the mighty men have found the use of their hands.
6At Your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
Both the chariot and horse were cast into a dead sleep.
7You, Yourself, are to be feared;
And who may stand in Your presence
When once You are angry?
8You caused judgment to be heard from heaven;
The earth feared and was still,
9When God arose to judgment,
To deliver all the oppressed of the earth.
Selah
-Psalm 76:4-9
I do not think there is any mistake that with the same breath praise is being made about the excellency of the Lord that it jumps right in to the fear of the Lord. In our modern day, we separate from the fear of the Lord a lot. Scripture gives praise with the fear of the Lord while we often hesitate to mention it. The fear of the Lord is a good thing. God's severity is righteous and good. His righteous judgment is good for us as well.
Praise God that He is not only severe but that He is good and loving as well! He is definitely One to be feared. He is also One to be rejoiced in. Our just Judge made a way for us to be free from the penalty we rightfully deserved. He is our deliverer. As such, He stands to oppose those who continue to oppose Him and His Church. Stand firm in your faith and rejoice in the Lord! Continue in the fear of the Lord and the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
