Psalm 74:18-23
18Remember this, that the enemy has reproached, O Lord,
And that a foolish people has blasphemed Your name.
19Oh, do not deliver the life of Your turtledove to the wild beast!
Do not forget the life of Your poor forever.
20Have respect to the covenant;
For the dark places of the earth are full of the haunts of cruelty.
21Oh, do not let the oppressed return ashamed!
Let the poor and needy praise Your name.
22Arise, O God, plead Your own cause;
Remember how the foolish man reproaches You daily.
23Do not forget the voice of Your enemies;
The tumult of those who rise up against You increases continually.
-Psalm 74:18-23
As it was shared yesterday, it is foolish to oppose the Lord. How great is our God that He stands for those who stand with Him! He does not simply deliver us into the hand of those who are dealing foolishly. Though opposition will come and persecution does happen, He remains to be our refuge. Where will the foolish run? Where can the enemies of God take shelter? The Lord is described as having eyes of fire. He sees through all things. He knows all things and is all powerful. What refuge can wickedness have before the Lord?
For the Lord's people, He remembers His covenant to them. He has established His word above His own name and will not defame it. He is trustworthy and faithful to keep His promises. Do not lose heart if you are in the midst of the battle. As the psalmist does here, seek the Lord for refuge and find rest in Him. Do not fall into the snare of the foolish who reproach the Lord. You are not alone and you do not have to depend on your own strength to stand. The Lord is your strength.
