Psalm 72:17-20

17His name shall endure forever;
His name shall continue as long as the sun.
And men shall be blessed in Him;
All nations shall call Him blessed.
18Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,
Who only does wondrous things!
19And blessed be His glorious name forever!
And let the whole earth be filled with His glory.
Amen and Amen.
20The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.
-Psalm 72:17-20

This form of praise testifying of the enduring name of God seems like a strange form of praise to us. Part of the reason of that is that we do not really understand the nature of Kingship and bearing a good name that will be testified of throughout generations. Another part of the reason is that our culture does not put as much emphasis on having a good name. However, this praise is testifying of more than just having a good name and that carrying on. It testifies of the Lord being the living God.

Throughout many of the Psalms we see where mankind is spoken of by his mortality. Man is like dust. We are frail and fragile, here today and gone tomorrow. The Lord is not so. He endures forever. He is strong and mighty. Rightfully so He should be praised! Let us live in a way that brings glory and honor to the Lord on high!
