Psalm 71:1-6
1In You, O Lord, I put my trust; Let me never be put to shame.
2Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape;
Incline Your ear to me, and save me.
3Be my strong refuge,
To which I may resort continually;
You have given the commandment to save me,
For You are my rock and my fortress.
4Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked,
Out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
5For You are my hope, O Lord God;
You are my trust from my youth.
6By You I have been upheld from birth;
You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb.
My praise shall be continually of You.
-Psalm 71:1-6
What is your trust in? Where is your hope placed? These questions are two that I ask myself frequently. In examining our lives, we should be certain that our trust and hope are placed in the Lord. For from that place we are not put to shame. As we read through this psalm we should recognize something very important. God is safe. Entrusting our lives to Him is not vain, hopeless, or reckless in any sense. We have the greatest sense of security we can have in the Lord.
The Lord is not simply a refuge. He is a strong refuge. This refuge is one we can resort to continually! The challenge I pose to myself is whether or not I do dwell there continually. We need to be those who continually walk in the Spirit and are actively submitted to the Lord. Let us learn to dwell with Him evermore. Trust in Him. Hope in Him. He is good and trustworthy. It is safe for us to entrust ourselves to Him.
