Psalm 69:1-4

    1      Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck.
    2      I sink in deep mire,
    Where there is no standing;
    I have come into deep waters,
    Where the floods overflow me.
    3      I am weary with my crying;
    My throat is dry;
    My eyes fail while I wait for my God.

    4      Those who hate me without a cause
    Are more than the hairs of my head;
    They are mighty who would destroy me,
    Being my enemies wrongfully;
    Though I have stolen nothing,
    I still must restore it.
-Psalm 69:1-4

As I read through this I think of when Peter walked on water. He stepped out of the boat with eyes fixated on Jesus. The waves crashing around him and the storm raging before him distracted him to where his eyes drifted from our Lord and he immediately began to sink. In desperation, the waters being up to his neck, he reached out and cried to Jesus to save him. Immediately Jesus reached out and took Peter by the hand and brought him to safety.

Waters in such an instance typifies of this world and storms typify of trials. These are the two main things that have great potential to hinder the faith of a believer. We get swallowed up by the cares of this life and knocked aside by the trials that befall us. There is one response to have, and our Lord is quick to reply. We must call out for the Lord and reach out to Him. We must respond in like manner as David does in this Psalm. Do not try to tread these waters and pull yourself out. Cry out for the Lord, for salvation belongs to Him. No matter how your circumstances may be looking, whether it is trials, sin, cares of this life or whatever such thing, cry out for the Lord. He is ready to restore.
