Psalm 66:13-15

13I will go into Your house with burnt offerings;
I will pay You my vows,
14Which my lips have uttered
And my mouth has spoken when I was in trouble.
15I will offer You burnt sacrifices of fat animals,
With the sweet aroma of rams;
I will offer bulls with goats.
-Psalm 66:13-15

Pastor Nathaniel and I had a conversation this week about preparing ourselves for Sunday mornings. Really the conversation was center around preparing ourselves to meet with the Lord. This kind of mindset is a spiritually healthy mindset as it gives proper place to God. When we come to the place of prayer or to meet with Him in His word, how do we come? Throughout the text of Scripture it was never a light hearted matter to come before the Lord. It was always understood that we are talking to the Living God, the Almighty. We should keep this same mind.

What stands to amaze me at this passage is that Jesus fulfills the role of every single one of these sacrifices. While they would come before the Lord offering sacrifices, we come in the name of Jesus. Ephesians teaches us that the sacrifice of Jesus was a sweet smelling aroma to the Lord, like that of a burnt offering. He also is our Passover Lamb. When we come before the Lord, we must come forward in the name of Jesus which is pleasing to God. Let us give honor to the Lord as we come before Him in prayer.
