Psalm 62:9-12
9Surely men of low degree are a vapor,
Men of high degree are a lie;
If they are weighed on the scales,
They are altogether lighter than vapor.
10Do not trust in oppression,
Nor vainly hope in robbery;
If riches increase,
Do not set your heart on them.
11God has spoken once,
Twice I have heard this:
That power belongs to God.
12Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy;
For You render to each one according to his work.
-Psalm 62:9-12
There is a measure of humility we ought to have in regard to humanity. Our culture has very obviously turned to humanitarianism where the focus is set upon exalting mankind. Do not fall for such a deception as those who built the tower of Babel, trying of their own accord to reach heaven. Scripture brings forward a very low and humble view of humanity. Our lives are like vapor. We are here today and gone tomorrow. Ecclesiastes points to the vanity of life for one who lives unto themselves.
Man is not the one who possesses power. There is no high degree of man. As the passage above states, such a man is a lie. Riches are not trustworthy. In the Lord is true power and genuine riches. May your pursuit be set upon Him forevermore.
