Psalm 61:3-4

    3      For You have been a shelter for me,
    A strong tower from the enemy.
    4      I will abide in Your tabernacle forever;
    I will trust in the shelter of Your wings.
-Psalm 61:3-4

There is something so sweetly comforting about dwelling where God dwells. There is protection. There is care. There is the glory of God. We cannot dwell with God if we are not where He is. This comes back to the point in yesterday's devotion of faith and humility. One, without faith it is impossible to please God and therefore impossible to abide with Him. Secondly, if we do not handle this with humility, we approach it in the wrong way.

In studying what it means to abide in the Lord, I came to an alarming conclusion about my approach. It seemed that I more wanted God to abide with me, than I with Him. I wanted for Him to be where I was and support what I was doing. I did "the right things" expecting Him to come and be with me. This, however, is living by works and not faith. Therefore, I was not pleasing to God nor was I humble. We cannot seek to abide with the Lord by simply wanting Him to abide with us. We must go to where He is. I will not abide in my tabernacle forever, but in His. Let us have this same mindset. Go to the place where the Lord dwells and abide with Him there.
